During March Barry M had another new release up their sleeve for us all in the shape of a new lip crayon collection called 'Gelly Hi-Shine Lips'. I would describe the collection as Barry M's take on the ever so popular chubby sticks that we all love in the blogosphere and I'd say they are very much inspired by Barry M's famous Gelly Hi-Shine Nail Paints which leave you with that ultimate glossy look.
The Barry M Gelly Hi-Shine Lips Collection consists of 5 hot shades, Capella, Electra, Sirus, Alpha and Vega, all of which are perfect shades for the Spring/Summer months. Out of the 5 shades I opted for Vega, a plum toned berry shade that leaves a glossy, semi-opaque finish to the lips, I found the pigmentation of Vega to be slightly sheer yet extremely buildable so you could most definitely get a good depth of colour if you built it up or you have that option to wear the shade more sheer. I was drawn to this shade in particular as I'm a huge lover of plum/berry lips, especially in the Autumn/Winter and I thought Vega was more of a summery version, because it looks really juicy with a hint of summer berries on the lips ha ha, arrhhh I heart it so much! The formula of Vega I love, it's so soft, smooth, non sticky and moisturising, definitely one of the best formula's I've tried out of all the 'chubby stick' style crayons and leaves a gorgeous glossy sheen to the lips too. As for lasting power... Well, the glossy sheen does wear off pretty quickly but then your left behind with what I can only describe as a moisturising stain to the lips which lasts on me a further 2ish hours, so Vega doesn't have the best lasting power in the world but as I love the shade and formula so much I wouldn't have a problem with reapplying often.
As for the packaging... Vega's packaging is very much fuss free, there is more or less no writing over the crayon at all, apart from the silver logo on the front and back, there isn't even any ingredients listed. The crayon has a plastic, pull off silver lid that's secure enough, I wouldn't have any worries of it wriggling off and taking a trip around my handbag. The crayons are also alot slimmer that the standard chubby sticks and annoyingly Barry M's offering doesn't have a screw up mechanism at the bottom, so once you've blunted the bullet you will need a large sharpener to sharpen your crayon again, and trust me its super messy and wasteful.
Overall I do really like Barry M's take on a moisturising lip crayon and Ive been wearing Vega pretty much everyday since I bought it which is a good sign ha ha. My only criticisms would be that it would be so much nicer and easier if the crayon had a screw up bottom so we didn't have to sharpen it, I've also noticed that because the formula is so soft it's likely to get slightly melty in the heat, so if your carrying the crayon around in your bag on a warm or hot day I have a feeling things will get messy ha ha. I also think it would be fab if Barry M brought out some Gelly Hi-Shine Nail Paints in the same shades as the Gelly Hi-Shine Lips Collection.

I have Capella and I really like it. Like you say you have to build the pigmentation but I love the finish.
ReplyDeleteI also have Sirius but I think that's going to be part of a giveaway when I hit 100 on Bloglovin.
