Dissapointing Product Review | Barry M Sunset Nail Polishes

Hey beaut's!

A few weeks ago when browsing in Superdrug I noticed Barry M had launched a brand new collection of nail polishes named the Sunset Daylight Curing Collection. Being the Barry M nail polish fan that I am I quickly popped one of the new nail polishes and the new top coat in my basket and couldn't wait to give them a go when I got home.
So what is this new collection all about you might being wondering?? Well...Barry M’s new Sunset Daylight Curing Nail Paint's and Topcoat aim to deliver the look and reliance of pro salon gel nails without the need of a UV lamp or the expense! All you need is a Sunset colour, the Sunset Topcoat and around 2-5 minutes of natural daylight and your well on your way to getting long lasting, hi gloss, at home gel nails that last for up to 10 days. Barry M also claim that theres no need for a base coat with these new nail paints as the special formulation bonds to the nails like a gel and can still be removed with a regular remover, sounds pretty amazing right! So far theres seven summer appropriate shades in the Sunset collection, eight if your counting the top coat as well, each bottle will set you back £4.99 each which is Barry M's priciest nail paint to date but considering the collections claims that's to be expected.
On each bottle of Sunset nail paint Barry M have attached a little two step guide to assure you apply the polish correctly and that you get the most of out of the colours. Firstly it tells you to apply one thin layer of your chosen Sunset nail paint shade and allow to dry, once dry repeat with a second thin coat and again leave to dry. I opted for the shade Fuchsia Generation, a deep raspberry shade that I absolutely adored. Secondly Barry M tell you to apply a thin layer of the Sunset Top Coat and allow to dry naturally in daylight, then your nails will be completely cured leaving you with a pro mani effect. I followed all the steps and was really impressed at first, my nails looked gorgeously glossy, they felt hard wearing and the colour was beautiful, I honestly thought this was a genius idea from Barry M however.... On my second day of wear all of my nails on my right hand and a couple on my left hand had enormous chips, and because of the gel formula once I got a chip the nail paint just seemed to peel off  in big chunks and my nails looked horrendous, I was so gutted as I knew I had applied everything correctly and was expecting very good things from this collection, not to mention that I'd spent £10.00 on them too as they are £4.99 each.
Overall I have to admit I'm really disappointed with these, I love Barry M Nail Paints so much usually and never have any trouble with them so this really shocked me, I even went outside on a sunny day to cure my nails and they still chipped more or less instantly, it's such a shame!

I'd love to know how you beauties got on with this collection?? Please tell me I'm not the only one who's had the awful chipping incidents.

  1. Oh wow that's dissapointing, I had high hopes for this range. I totally recommend the new Essence gel polish top and base coat. They don't need sunlight or UV light to cure, they just dry Down like regular polish, but with high shine and durability. I can get away with only painting my nails once a week with those, and my polish normally chips within 24 hours. I did a review of them if you are interested, but I thought I would ask before just spamming you with links.

  2. I bought the nude one and I really liked it for the first 2 days but then it just totally chipped which was a bit disappointing! I think it seemed far too good to be true to actually last as long as a manicure!

  3. I do have one of these colours and the top coat and I thought they were okay. It did last longer on my nails then my usual polish but not days. But it is always horrible when you are disapointed with a product

  4. Oh, how disappointing! I was going to pick a couple of these up when I was home but I'm glad I didn't now. Such a shame as I really liked the idea behind this one. x

  6. I've always found Barry M nail polish to chip more than others, but I continually get them just because of the colours. Shame it didn't live up to what it would say it does though! :(

  7. That's such a shame! I reviewed Do It Like A Nude the other day and I love it, it wasn't until day 11 that I got my first chip. I buffed my nails before application and made sure they were clear of any oils with nail polish remover, perhaps that would help?

  8. That's a shame it didn't last long - this is one of my favourite shades in the collection. I wore the red for 5 very busy and hands-on days in Disneyland and I only started to see some slight wear on the tips when I got back. I definitely don't think they last 10 days like they claim though.

  9. This is such a shame, I've heard a few people say similar things too. I was thinking of trying the pink shade so I'm really glad I didn't now. x

  11. I bought the pink shade and the top coat, and I was really disappointed in them too. And talk to me, about the trouble I had, trying to remove it from the nails. Took me five attempts to get it off my nails, other than it chipping off.
