Terry's Chocolate Orange Loaf Cake Recipe

Who's ready for things to get a bit festive around these parts? I know I am, and what better way to kick start the super festive recipes than with a Terry's Chocolate Orange Loaf Cake! Chocolate orange is one of my favourite flavours, and lets face it a Terry's Chocolate Orange is a Christmas essential, their so festive and I think all of us receive one in our Christmas stockings don't we?! This recipe is based off of my Halloween layer cake I made back in October but the quantities are slightly different, so if you fancy giving this one a go just scroll down for the recipe!

What You Will Need For The Chocolate Orange Loaf Cake
175g Unsalted Butter
175g Caster Sugar
2 Large Eggs
25g Good Quality Cocoa Powder
135g Self Raising Flour
45g Melted Dark Chocolate ( I Used Green & Blacks 70%)
Zest Of One Large Orange

What You Will Need For The Buttercream
125g Unsalted Butter
200g Icing Sugar
50g Cocoa Powder
1-3 tbsp Juice From The Orange
Terry's Chocolate Orange To Decorate
Sprinkles (optional)

How To - Chocolate Orange Loaf Cake
1. Pre-heat your oven to gas mark 4 and line a loaf tin with baking paper.
2. Melt the dark chocolate in the microwave in 30 second bursts then set aside to cool whilst you get on with the rest of the recipe.
3. In a large bowl, cream together the caster sugar and the butter until its pale and fluffy then whack in your eggs one at a time.
4. Then add in your cocoa powder and flour and mix well before adding in the melted chocolate and the zest of the orange, give it a final whizz then pop the batter into your loaf tin and bake for around 25-35 minutes.

How To - Chocolate Orange Buttercream
1. In a large bowl or standing mixer, beat the butter until it becomes super light in colour and whippy, then start adding the icing sugar and cocoa powder slowly to avoid the dreaded icing sugar cloud and mix again until combined.
2. Your buttercream will usually need a splash of milk at this point to loosen it up slightly, however if you want that chocolate orange flavoured buttercream (which is immense by the way) just juice your orange that you zested previously and pop 1 tablespoon of the juice into the buttercream at a time instead of the milk until you get your desired constancy and flavour.
3. Pipe or spoon the buttercream on top of the loaf and decorate how you like, I layered the some chocolate orange segments through the centre of the loaf and used to sprinkles I picked up in Tesco and jazz the rest of the loaf up and voila!!
You HAVE to make this loaf cake if your a fan of chocolate orange, it's so delicious and honestly tastes exactly like a Terry's Chocolate Orange. It's quite an easy bake too and the ingredients are quite minimal which is a bonus. Go on beaut's give this one a go!
